Three years after lifting the veil on the Seven style study, Hyundai took advantage of the Los Angeles show to introduce its very first electric mid-size SUV, the Ioniq 9.

Much anticipated, this brand new model is in some ways a new interpretation of the recipe of the Kia EV9 with which it shares its platform. The Ioniq 9 is, however, slightly longer (50 mm), a gain attributable to its wheelbase increased by around thirty millimeters (3130 mm in total).
Its design was largely influenced by the Seven style study, while still having an aerodynamic sensibility. This Ioniq 9 has a drag coefficient of just 0.259, making it more efficient than the Kia EV9 in this regard.
Large battery and several engines
The Ioniq 9 will be equipped with a single battery with a capacity of 110.9 kWh. The maximum charging power is 350 kW and Hyundai will offer bi-directional charging, just like its other electric models.
Three mechanical configurations were exhibited during the global launch, namely an entry-level rear-engined 214 hp, and two twin-engined 308 hp and 429 hp. Hyundai estimates the range of the most efficient rear-wheel drive variant at 539 km. This is slightly more than a certain Tesla Model X (529 km) which must however negotiate with two motors to manage energy. The Ioniq 9 can also tow a load of 2279 kg (5000 lb).
We will have a clearer idea of the SUV’s positioning on the Canadian market in the second quarter of 2025.
