As planned and announced, the International Plastics Forum-Exhibition opened its doors on Wednesday, June 26 at the Exhibition Center of the Casablanca Fairs and Exhibitions Office “OFEC” – AMDIE.

Organized in conjunction with the 1st edition of the Global Green Plast “GGP” by the Moroccan Plastics Federation (FMP), under the aegis of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, this forum aimed to promote the emergence of new green industrial synergies and to make them a powerful lever for sustainable industrial growth.

Opening the proceedings of the 11th edition of this plastics industry meeting, Malika Mezzour, Vice-President of the Casablanca City Council, indicated that the metropolis was proud to host this event which brought together the various players in the plastics industry, the driving force of the Moroccan economy: ”Faced with environmental challenges, it is imperative to reinvent our approach to the production and consumption of plastic”, she announced, while noting that the transition to green plastics was not only an environmental necessity, but an economic opportunity. The Vice-President was convinced that by adopting sustainable practices: ”we contribute together not only to reducing the ecological footprint but also to stimulating innovation, creating new jobs and strengthening national economic competitiveness on international markets, and the city of Casablanca is perfectly in line with this dynamic through concrete initiatives”.

The same story was echoed by Chakib Alj, President of the CGEM, who indicated that the plastics industry was showing significant growth rates and was making a strong contribution to the creation of added value and jobs: “In a favorable business climate, the double-digit growth posted by the sector combined with its largely untapped potential made it one of the most promising industries in our economy.” For him, the challenge now is to secure the supply of recyclable materials, a subject that we all need to address in the near future and in a societal as well as circular economy logic: “This will help maintain the sector’s momentum and will automatically benefit all our industries,” he concluded.

For his part, Hicham Elhaid, president of the Moroccan Federation of Plastics, specified that the plastics sector was transversal, supporting other industrial sectors such as the automobile, agri-food and others, by offering them solutions that allowed them to significantly reduce their dependence on imports. According to him, professionals in the sector were obliged to face the various challenges by placing sustainable development among their priorities.

As a reminder, this new edition of the FMP International Forum-Exhibition highlighted two partner sectors of the plastics industry this year: Fishery Products Transformation and Valorization Industries (FENIP) and the Chemistry sector. , represented by their Federations, FENIP and FCP

During the three days of the forum, visitors had the opportunity to discover the potential of national production “Made in Morocco” of investments and industrial subcontracting available in Morocco, in order to promote the emergence of new green industrial synergies and make it a powerful lever for sustainable industrial growth.
