Relatively unknown in our country, JD Power is a consumer satisfaction research agency, whose reports are always carefully scrutinized by the car manufacturers themselves. These reports are in fact a fairly precise guide to the quality problems of the different models, which the brands use to improve their products. This American organization is independent, and has never hesitated to criticize local manufacturers when their cars were of poor quality. This is to tell you that they analyze the data without bias.

Three times more in the garage

Covering the period from July 2023 to May 2024, the report indicates an average score of 180 PP100 (problems per 100 cars), compared to 266 PP100 for electric cars. Let’s be clear: the notion of “problem” is very broad here, since it includes things like an unpleasant smell from the air conditioning, a problem with the Apple CarPlay or Android Auto connection, or irritating security alerts. But the fact remains that in detail, we learn that serious problems, leading to a visit to the dealership and immobilization of the vehicle, are three times higher for new EVs than for new thermal vehicles. And the report also shows that at this level, Tesla and “traditional” manufacturers have equal problems.
