Here’s how to claim it if you’ve been forgotten

Around 5.6 million French people were affected by the automatic energy check sending campaign for the year 2024, which ended on April 25. But some low-income households may have been “forgotten” by the administration and will be able to claim this boost if they believe they can benefit from it. As promised by the Ministry of the Economy, an online counter will be officially launched on July 4, indicates Money Vox.

Difficulties in identifying all beneficiaries

You can check your eligibility for the energy check via an official simulator. If this is the case, you can then connect to the digital counter on Chequeenergie.gouv.fr to make your request. According to a press release from Bercy, you will then need to provide your tax number, your identity document, and an energy bill. “After studying their file, eligible households will receive their energy check within a maximum of one month,” explains the Ministry of the Economy.

The energy check allows the most modest households to pay electricity, gas, wood or oil heating bills and even certain energy renovation work. Its annual amount varies between 48 and 277 euros, calculated according to the reference tax income and the composition of the household. For this last criterion, the administration usually based itself on housing tax declarations. However, this was abolished in 2023, which complicated the identification of potential eligible households.

A counter open until December 31

According to several associations, a million beneficiaries may have been set aside. “This concerns, for example, young people entering working life (first-time filers), households who experienced a drop in income between 2021 and 2022 or households who had a birth in 2022,” added the ministry. The application window will remain open online until December 31, 2024.

People who do not have an Internet tool or who have difficulty with digital technology can call 0.805.204.805. They will then be supported in their procedures carried out by postal mail.
