As Quebec’s fruit and vegetable season quickly approaches, Quebecers can expect attractive prices, particularly for carrots, especially if they are a little patient.
This is what Dalhousie University agri-food industry specialist Sylvain Charlebois said in an interview with LCN.
“The harvest is good and prices should be affordable,” he says. “As for carrots, we expect very attractive prices.”
The precipitation received in Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes meant that the harvest was fruitful for local producers.
“We should have a section of fruits and vegetables that will help consumers, especially if they have a tight budget these days due to their mortgage payments,” says Mr. Charlebois. “It’s good news.”
In order to save money, he urges consumers to be patient.
“For people who love strawberries, blueberries, carrots, we’re really going to be spoiled,” he says. “Be patient a little. When the products arrive on the market, the prices are necessarily a little higher at the beginning of the season.”
“If you wait a few days, or even maybe a week, you will see that prices gradually decrease,” he adds. “And that’s where it might be time to buy, store, freeze all that stuff for the fall and winter. This is where you will save a lot. Patience pays off.”
