At the Guangzhou show, BYD’s premium brand completed its range of models in the upper range, with the Z9 sedan and the N9 7-seater SUV. The latter clearly targets the Range Rover family, but with an offer of electrified engines.
In family 9, I would like the SUV. Here is the N9 which comes with the D9 minivan, the Z9 GT station wagon and the Z9 sedan. This N9 proves that the Americans do not have a monopoly on large SUVs. It measures 5258 mm long and 2030 mm wide.
A big baby that will accommodate up to 7 passengers, in a classic 2/2/3 configuration: 2 seats in the first row, 2 in the second row and 3 in the rear seat. So many occupants who will be well treated as is customary on this type of model in China where comfort does not only concern the driver. For the interior, we are nevertheless reduced to conjectures, since BYD has not yet revealed the details. We will definitely have three screens at the front, very comfortable second row seats with screens, a refrigerated and heated compartment…
The inspiration for the exterior part is clearly to be found at Range Rover. A monolithic and very horizontal appearance. We use identical recipes with the flush windows on the rear doors, the integrated window wipers… A much more sober object than its stable cousin, the Yangwang U8 which is excessive and flaunting at all levels. The clientele is not the same. Range Rover, however, is only an inspiration, not a real competitor. The target here will be the LI Auto L9, Aito M9 or Nio ES8 with a more family clientele.

Triple electric motor
The comparison with the Range Rover (or Range Rover Sport) or the American SUVs mentioned above comes to an abrupt end if we approach the subject of the engine. The Denza N9 is only offered with electrified versions. Like the brand’s other models, the 100% electric coexists with the rechargeable hybrid.
In both cases, we will find three electric motors, which announce 680 kW for the plug-in hybrid. With this electrified cavalry, the 2.0 Turbo only makes up the numbers and drives the wheels very little. Denza, however, has not yet switched to a simple range extender, which would nevertheless simplify the traction chain. Here the 47 kWh battery allows 165 km of electric range (WLTP).
No information on the autonomy of the electric version, of which we only know the power: 710 kW with three motors. Here too, one at the front and two at the rear.
