A “strange smell”: emergency services examine a plane at Schiphol Airport, the Netherlands

Dutch firefighters and rescue services went to Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam) following a report of a “strange smell” on a KLM airline plane. Once the plane landed, the people were examined. They had mild symptoms and did not have to go to the hospital.

The security region initially ruled it a precautionary landing, but it was later determined that the plane was following its usual route with Schiphol as its final destination. The emergency services still went to the scene as a precautionary measure.

The flight in question was KL 676 originating from Edmonton, Canada. L’“strange smell” was observed just before landing. An initial check of the aircraft did not reveal any irregularities, explains a KLM spokesperson. She said additional investigations were underway.
