BYD soon ahead of Stellantis, Ford and General Motors? Don’t laugh too much…

In the third quarter, BYD continued its progress and achieved a great performance, ahead of Ford globally. And the next competitors are now within firing range.

The figures for the third quarter are particularly revealing. The different global automobile groups have not all experienced the same adventure. Overall, all were in decline between June and September, except for one auto giant, and that is Chinese. BYD has in fact seen its sales grow dramatically this year, even to the point of worrying direct Chinese rivals who are nevertheless generously sized. And even to tickle global groups who never thought they would be followed by a Chinese brand so quickly.

BYD soon ahead of Stellantis?

The Chinese BYD was therefore the only one in the green in the third quarter, with +38% of new vehicle registrations worldwide. At the same time, Ford (+0.8%) and General Motors (-13%) are starting to tremble. The first was overtaken by BYD, and GM is now starting to tremble. But above all, with its 38% increase, BYD is on the verge of overtaking Stellantis in the third quarter. For now, the leading trio remains a real step ahead of BYD, but we will have to wait for the full assessment of 2024 to learn the first lessons. In any case, Toyota is well on its way to once again becoming the world’s leading automobile group, despite the scandals which tainted the Japanese giant this year with the falsification of safety tests in Japan.
