  • Across Europe, sales of electric cars are collapsing
  • Another technology is much more popular: hybrid cars
  • These hybrid cars provide access to electricity and fuel, hence their popularity

The electric car has many qualities and other solid assets to convince motorists. Unfortunately, there remain certain obstacles to its adoption despite, in France, the establishment of an ecological bonus or even social leasing. It’s not much better in Europe since sales are collapsing while another technology is emerging: hybrid vehicles.

Hybrid cars are becoming more and more popular

The sale of electric cars is not doing well in Europe, especially in Germany with a sharp drop of 30.6% in May last following the end of subsidies in December 2023. Models running on gasoline and diesel display a resurgence of popularity despite Europe’s wish to stop their production within ten years.

However, the technology popular with motorists is between electric and fuel since hybrid cars are becoming more and more popular. Which is ironic when we know that they are in the sights of the European Commission. It must be said that these machines offer the best of both while being more economical. They allow you to drive electric to test the technology while continuing to benefit from fuel. No need to wait for your vehicle to be loaded when you’re in a hurry. Without forgetting that if France is well off in terms of charging networks and the Old Continent plans to add them every 60 km, other countries have fewer terminals.

Still obstacles to the adoption of electric cars

Certainly, the various governments that make up the European Commission believe that we must quickly switch to electric power to curb global warming. But in fact, the price of these vehicles remains a huge black spot. It is also complicated to change habits to move from a full tank of gas which allows you to drive immediately to a more technological but less instantaneous alternative. The future will tell us whether hybrid cars represent a first step for motorists before the transition to total electric.
