New outbreak of E. coli: don’t eat these little organic carrots

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is recalling organic baby and baby carrots due to E. coli microbial contamination.

The affected carrots “are subject to a recall from the market because these products could be contaminated by the bacteria E. coli O121,” the federal agency said in a press release.

These vegetables which are subject to recall are Cal-Organic, Bunny-Luv and Compliments Biologique brands, and are distributed across Canada.

The affected carrots, most of which were sold from August 14 to October 23, should be thrown out or returned to the place where they were purchased.

The products are packaged in multiple sizes of 50 lb, 340 g, 454 g, 907 g, 2×907 g, 2.27 kg and 11.34 kg, the CFIA said.

Food contaminated with E. coli O121 bacteria does not necessarily show visible spoilage or a suspicious odor, but it can still make you sick.

Furthermore, these same products have already been the subject of an urgent recall in the United States after a death caused by a new outbreak of E. coli.
