Intrigued by the significant destocking that began at the beginning of September on the shelves of the Casino de Carhaix supermarket, we questioned the group's management about the possibility of a closure. On September 12, it assured that there were “no plans to close at this time”, even though numerous rumors announced the opposite. According to our information, the supermarket should finally close its doors on November 30. On site, staff could not confirm this information this Wednesday, but according to our sources, it had been communicated to them earlier in the day.
“An essential service! »
The closure of this 1,800 m² business located in the heart of the town was strongly feared by local residents, like Annick, 81, whom we interviewed in September: “I live nearby, and as I don't have a car, I come regularly. This is an essential service! “. Gérard, whose mobility is reduced after several heart attacks, said nothing else: “I live in the city center, and if this store no longer existed, I would have to take a taxi to go do my shopping. », he indicated.
“A serious lead”
For its part, the city ensures that it is very attentive to the outcome of this matter. Contacted, the mayor, Christian Troadec, recalls that during the municipal council meeting of October 7, the town hall asserted its right of pre-emption on two plots of the Casino site, place du Champ-de-Foire, to preserve this food surface and facilitate its recovery. “We have a serious lead with a partner who we cannot yet name, but with whom we have a meeting in the next 15 days,” he says.
An independent franchisee, the store is today owned by the company SAPLMP, in partnership with Casino. The walls belong to Ouest Immo and the Casino group. The store now has sixteen employees, most of whom have between 30 and 40 years of seniority.
