After the Puretech engines, it is the turn of the BlueHDI engines to power the vehicles of the Stellantis group. As explained L’Automobile magazine In mid-October, discontent grew among motorists who own Peugeot, Citroën, or Opel vehicles equipped with the 1.5 l BlueHDI engine.
Angry users created a Facebook group to complain about the sudden breakdown of their engine, a group which now has more than 7,000 members.
What is the origin of the problem?
The cause is a problem with the metal chain which drives the camshaft, which regulates the opening and closing of the valves. This is too thin and tends to relax or even break completely. Enough to make your vehicle good for scrapping.
A defect present only for diesel cars manufactured between October 2017 and January 2023, which the group has since corrected, increasing the thickness of the chain from 7 to 8 mm.
No automatic reminder has yet been organized by the group although according to L’Argusnearly 760,000 vehicles are potentially affected.
Which models are affected?
This 1.5 l BlueHDI engine has been fitted to numerous Citroën and Peugeot models. Diesel cars with reference DV5R are affected.
At the lion brand, the 208, 308, 508, 2008, 3008 and 5008 are part of the list. Just like the Partner, Expert and Traveler utilities.
For the chevron brand, the C3, C3 Aircross, C4, Cactus, Space Tourer, as well as the Berlingo and the Jumpy are concerned. In the premium segment, the DS 3, DS 4 and DS 7 are also affected.
The engine also equips several Opel brand cars: Corsa, Mokka, Crossland, Astra, Grandland, Zafira, Combo and Vivaro. The Ford Transit and Toyota Proace utility vehicles are also affected.
What signals to watch for?
As the Stellantis group explained to TF1, “malfunctions or warnings, such as mechanical noises, may occur […] which can increase the risk of breakage. »
In summary, if you hear a clicking sound coming from the engine, even when it is running cold, the camshaft chain could be about to break. It is then recommended to go to a dealership quickly.
The Stellantis group indicated to the Voice of the North cover repairs for vehicles less than 5 years old or less than 150,000 km. Provided that all maintenance has been carried out on time by the owner. Otherwise the invoice will be borne by the customer.
