The French pilots' union (SNPL) has filed a strike notice for Thursday, November 14, to protest against a government proposal to triple the solidarity tax on plane tickets.

The notice, which concerns Air and other carriers employing pilots under French employment contracts, comes as the government seeks to pass its draft budget for 2025, despite the lack of a majority in Parliament.

“This additional imposition will ultimately lead to tens of thousands of job losses in France,” indicates the SNPL in a press release, referring to a “social disaster”.

The government's proposal to increase the air tax on flights to or from France is expected to generate additional revenue of 1 billion euros ($1.07 billion) next year.
