Costco was forced to recall nearly 80,000 pounds of Kirkland Signature brand butter, distributed in Texas, due to an undeclared allergen on the package.
A report from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued the first recall on October 11, involving 79,200 pounds of salted and unsalted Kirkland Signature Sweet Cream Butter, produced by Continental Dairy Facilities Southwest LLC, located in Texas.
The packages simply listed cream as an ingredient, without including the allergy warning that the butter “contains milk,” the FDA said, according to the New York Post.
The FDA subsequently issued a second recall on November 7, now classifying it as Class II. This classification means that it is a situation in which “the use of or exposure to a non-compliant product may result in temporary or medically reversible adverse consequences for health or in which the likelihood of serious adverse consequences for health is poor,” we can read on the FDA website.
These recalled products, manufactured and distributed in Texas, would include 1,300 cases of Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter and 900 cases of Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter, according to the blog Food & Wine. The expiration date would be between February 22, 2025 and March 19, 2025.
