Foreign travelers installed in the Rama car park in Lausanne (VD) for more than three months do not fully respect the agreement which governs their occupation. They would not have completely paid the amount owed to the City.

The agreement which governs the parking of caravans was signed between the municipal authorities and Travelers. In particular, it provides for the provision of garbage bins, water and electricity. In exchange, occupants must pay a daily fee of 30 francs per caravan, collected each week by municipal police officers.

But the total amount owed has not been fully paid. If the City of Lausanne does not wish to comment on the reason, it confirms that the amounts are not always easy to collect. An assessment will be made later.

Eviction planned

This situation caused the president of the Lausanne PLR, Mathilde Maillard, to react. She believes that action should be taken if the payment turns out to be incomplete. “We must take measures, which go as far as expulsion if the compensation cannot be paid within a reasonable time,” she said in La Matinale on Monday.

Concerning possible compensation for the operator of the agricultural plot neighboring the Rama camp and unusable partly due to excrement, the City confirms that compensation is planned, payable by Travelers. Without giving a date.

Lausanne Green municipal councilor Ilias Panchard, for his part, calls on travelers to pay their dues.

A “welcome place worthy of the name”

Ilias Panchard also believes that the City of Lausanne must think about a real welcoming place on its territory. “Lausanne, as the capital (…), can clearly assume its part (…). One of the solutions is to have a reception center worthy of the name.” For example, he cites certain places “in the upper part of the city or to the south”.

In Yverdon, the municipal officer in charge of security confirms that all compensation was paid by travelers. It was a condition for letting them leave the Y-Parc site, which they occupied for more than a month this year.
