Economic activity: Occitanie is doing well

What results for the region’s economic activity in 2023? INSEE, the national institute of statistics and economic studies, took stock this Thursday, June 13, of the situation of businesses in Occitanie. In a troubled international context, and despite inflation, our region is doing well.

Even if activity slowed down in 2023 compared to 2022 in Occitanie, this slowdown is less marked than in the rest of France. There are just over 15,000 new jobs, with marked differences depending on the sector. Decrease in temporary work and construction, but increase in industry for example.

And as usual, the departments are not all in the same boat. “Haute-Garonne and Hautes-Pyrénées are the departments of the region where activity is growing the most. Thanks in particular to the recovery of the aeronautics sector. The Lot also benefits from this recovery, but in this department, the recovery in activity is less due in particular to the drop in the hotel and catering industry.“, explains Lionel Doisneau, head of economic studies at INSEE Occitanie. “Growth is also resisting in Aveyron and Tarn-et-Garonne, which stand out for an increase in paid hours in construction“.

In these two departments, the fall in construction starts was later than elsewhere. On the other hand, activity is decreasing in Lozère and Tarn.

At the same time, unemployment has risen slightly, but still remains at a level lower than that recorded before the health crisis.
