The Société des ferry du Québec (STQ) indicates that the hinges of the vehicle boarding ramps on both sides of the river will be changed. The work begins on November 18 and should be concluded around mid-December.
The interruption of service to automobiles will be in effect only during this period. Users traveling in wheelchairs, scooters or quad bikes will also not be able to access the ship since “the inclination of the gangway will vary depending on the tides and would require passengers to use their hands to board,” says the STQ.
Other work is planned soon, including the construction of a new gatehouse at the Quebec crossing at the end of 2024 and the modernization of the elevator at the capital’s ferry terminal in 2025.
The Quebec Bridge still closed
The STQ therefore invites its customers to review their travel planning during the work. They will also have to take into consideration the sporadic closures of the Quebec bridge.
Indeed, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (MTMD) mentions that the Quebec bridge will once again be closed from Friday evening, November 8 to Monday morning, November 11 for the reconstruction of the interchanges north of the Pierre-Laporte and Quebec.
“Other closures of the Quebec Bridge could be required by the end of the year, during certain weekends and certain evenings and nights during the week, in order to continue the work,” says the MTMD.
