Samsung Electronics said Thursday its president met with executives from Meta, Qualcomm and Amazon this week to discuss cooperation and that topics included artificial intelligence, cloud services and chips.

Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg invited Jay Y. Lee to his home on Tuesday and their discussions focused on artificial intelligence as well as virtual and augmented reality, Samsung said in a statement.

Mr. Lee also met with Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon to discuss cooperation in semiconductors, including memory chips for data centers and services. Amazon’s cloud business, as well as contract manufacturing of chips for Qualcomm’s mobile processors, Samsung said.

The South Korean tech giant plans to hold a company-wide strategy meeting towards the end of June, which will be fueled by Mr Lee’s discussions on cooperation with the three US companies, a- he added.

Mr Lee is on a two-week visit to the United States.

Samsung has been losing ground to rivals in chips, particularly high-end memory for artificial intelligence, and the new head of the semiconductor division has called on staff to pull together to overcome a series of difficulties.

Amazon is a key customer of Samsung for chips and the two companies also work together in various areas such as TV, mobile and content.

Samsung’s high-end smartphones use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon mobile processors, and the two companies recently expanded their partnership to PCs with artificial intelligence.

Meta is also a customer of Samsung’s chips and has worked with Samsung on the South Korean company’s Gear VR headset and foldable smartphones. (Reporting by Joyce Lee; Editing by Edwina Gibbs)
