Faced with the various reforms, the French appreciate each source of savings for the family budget. Good news in terms of energy is coming for homes. A significant reduction in electricity will be effective from the start of 2025. Here is everything you need to know on the subject.
An increase in the tax on the electricity bill?
The bad news has been coming one after the other since October for the French. The budgetary reform that the State wishes to carry out requires many changes. And this applies in particular to tax on electricity bill. A situation which suggested an increase in energy costs for the French.
The concern is even greater now that winter is here. Indeed, French homes must keep warm. And the use of heating could blow up the electricity bill. The tax increase could also make an even bigger hole in the budgets of the poorest households.
At the latest forecasts, the authorities anticipated a counterbalance to the tax increase and falling market prices. This should therefore allow the French not to feel the increase, but without making real savings. The latest provisions could, however, change things! Indeed, the new measure announced by the Deputy Minister of Energy could save the budget of French households.

A drop in bills for the French
During her appearance on France Bleu Paris, Olga Givernet announced the reduction in electricity bills for a large number of French people. This concerns no less than 80% of households. The reduction will be particularly effective for those who use a regulated tariff. The latter will therefore have less expenses on their bills from 2025.
As she indicated during her appearance on France Bleu Paris, the French will have a drop of around 30 euros. This is particularly true for those whose bill is 300 euros for example. The latter will then only have to pay 270 euros from next year. Unfortunately, this reduction on the electricity bill will not be for everyone.
Indeed, the French who have contracts dependent on the market could not benefit from this reduction. As a reminder, the latter have already benefited from the price reduction some time ago. The new measure therefore does not concern them compared to those who use other energy tariffs.
The tax on the electricity bill in question
Just a few weeks ago, French households were disappointed by the announcement of an increase in tax on electricity bills. The latter should, however, allow the State to do a saving of 3 billion euros to replenish its coffers. A reform which is part of the authorities' approach to reducing costs for the State.
On October 17, this increase in taxes on the electricity bill was examined by the finance committee of the measure. The opponents of the latter being numerous, tipped the scales in favor of French households.
