Hotels: the Swiss hang out in bed, the English and French go out

When staying in hotels in their countries, the Swiss tend to go to bed early and sleep in. Ditto for the Germans. The French and the British are more the type to go out, enjoy their evening and spend less time snoozing. Here are the trends emerging from a study published this Thursday by Suisse Tourisme.

We learn, for example, that the Swiss spend on average 12 hours 50 minutes in their hotel over a 24-hour day. On the other hand, although they spend less time in the establishment during the evening and night, the British like to stay there during the day to benefit from the leisure offers offered on site. Quite the opposite of the Swiss, Germans and French who say they take advantage of daylight to discover and visit the surrounding areas.

For German vacationers, Swiss hotels play a key role in their travel decision, while tourist attractions are decisive for other travelers. German customers say they pay as much attention to the choice of hotel as to that of the destination when planning a vacation in Switzerland, writes Suisse Tourisme.

A good majority of respondents (73%), regardless of their nationality, agree on one observation: if the accommodation is good, the trip as a whole is successful.
