In Royan, a collective of medical and paramedical staff was created to denounce the malaise within the city's hospital. A nurse and a caregiver were summoned by their superiors because they had organized a demonstration. They will not be sanctioned, but management wanted to make some clarifications.

They avoided the sanction! Two caregivers from Royan hospital organized a demonstration in the city center on October 18 to express the suffering of the establishment's medical staff. A gathering to alert the population: the collective, which includes 150 members, signed a petition. There are only 68 beds left at Royan hospital, a drop of 22% in three years.
A collective that was created without the help of unions. At the beginning of the week, a nurse and a caregiver were summoned by management for an interview prior to disciplinary action. But they were just entitled to a reminder of the rules.

“I consider that when agents speak publicly about the difficulties they encounter, it is because there is suffering behind it”indicates Patrick Marengo, mayor of Royan and president of the hospital supervisory board. “This is why I was not in favor of taking sanctions and the director of the hospital was also in this position, which means that we had no difficulty in reaching an agreement. On the other hand, we must also remind people of the duties incumbent on them, in particular the rules of the territorial civil service. »
And on the side of the hospital caregivers, this decision is welcomed with relief: “I am happy to see that this hospital is not a military barracks, but a hospital where there is still a little humanity”announces Sauveur Méglio, regional representative of the union of Emergency Doctors of France. “There were a lot of people behind these two brave nurses and caregivers whom the MUF fully supports and in a balance of power where there were many people for them, we could not go against the course of history. »
During a crisis meeting on Thursday, October 31, management, however, wanted to point out that, even if the Royan hospital is experiencing difficulties, improvements have been made. Concerning recruitment, two emergency doctors joined the workforce last month and a geriatric doctor took up his duties last week.
And the rumors had to be put to rest: “In Royan, what is specific at the moment is a shift in the comments being made”explains Laurent Flament, departmental director of the Regional Health Agency. “It is absolutely out of the question to hear that the Royan hospital would have no place and that it would have to close tomorrow. This hospital is essential to the territory. Its activity will continue and should even develop. »
The hospital authorities now seem to consider that the incident is closed. But fundamentally, regarding the expression of suffering of employees, no solution has been provided.
