“To receive your new Vitale card, please update your personal data.” “You have still not paid your fine and remain liable for the sum of 35 euros. Click on the link below »… Red alert! Not a week goes by without us receiving this type of email or SMS. From June 6, Orange is pressing the “STOP” button with its Cybersecure Pack, including 20 minutes reveals the details to you.

The end of suspicious messages

If just a few months ago, a seasoned eye could easily distinguish an attempted scam through an email or SMS, the cybercriminals who produce them in the shadows have since made good progress. As a result, it is increasingly complicated to distinguish real messages from fakes. “Today, these fraud attempts are no longer just the business of companies,” explains Christel Heydemann. Citing a Harris Interactive survey, according to which more than two out of three French people say they receive at least one suspicious message every week, the CEO of Orange announces the response: Cybersecure.

A collaborative and free platform

Launched this Thursday, June 6, this new offer from Orange has two levels. It is firstly constituted by a free Internet portal, for everyone, where it will be possible with a simple click to test a link, a message, an SMS. “It’s the Waze of cyber,” enthuses Christel Heydemann. Second level, a paid solution for Orange and Sosh customers. An application thanks to which it will be possible to protect up to ten terminals (smartphones, tablets, computers) without commitment. “And it’s not just an antivirus! », proclaims the General Director of Orange.

3,000 experts on the job

For Cybersure, Orange will rely on its subsidiary Orange Cyberdefense launched fifteen years ago. This protects large companies, SMEs and VSEs from viral attacks with tailor-made solutions. “Every day, a million threats are analyzed by Cyberdefense’s 3,000 experts,” recalls Hugues Foulon, executive general director of the Orange subsidiary. “With AI, the threat will grow industrially, we had to develop something for individuals.”

Aside from businesses, cybercriminals are now massively attacking individuals.– Can go

Thus, the free collaborative platform cybersure.orange.fr put online from June 6 first allows doubts to be resolved. Permanently powered by Orange and its users (who will enrich the database), this cybercrime Waze identifies, as 20 minutes was able to see a fraudulent message or link in a few seconds.

Identify by simple copy/paste

Simply copy/paste them into the field provided for this purpose to find out whether or not it is an attempted scam. And if the platform cannot immediately distinguish between truth and falsehood, a response is promised in 100% of cases within 12 hours.

It’s a shame, in our opinion, that we can’t just forward the suspicious message to a dedicated email address or telephone number to receive a response in return. As simple as it is, copying and pasting risks putting off people who are less experienced with technology (including many seniors) who, moreover, could well click on a fraudulent link by clumsily carrying out the maneuver. Orange promised us that things will change.

Up to ten protected terminals

For its part, the Cybersecure application is intended to be a shield against fraud attempts. Terminals equipped with it will instantly block questionable and unwanted telephone calls on Orange subscribers’ mobiles, detect illicit messages and block them. It will not be a simple antispam promises the operator who boasts, based on internal tests, an offer “six times more effective” than traditional protection tools.

In addition to “digital hygiene” workshops accessible online to learn cyber-responsible actions, a specially trained technical advisor can finally be reached by telephone 7 days a week, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. 220 advisors will be on the front lines. Including in the event of proven fraud.

The Cybersecure application can thus be installed on ten devices, for an expense of 7 euros per month. Which is not given. Of course, this only amounts to 70 euro cents per terminal, but why, in this case, charge the same price to a person (single, student, etc.) who only wants to protect their personal computer and their smartphone?

The fact remains that on the eve of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Orange’s offer comes at the right time. Everything suggests that a real cybercrime marathon is already underway and will only grow in the coming weeks. And the “hype” of AI, as Orange calls it, could well disillusion more than one person. Because artificial intelligence will “arm” the attackers and provide them with new weapons to advance more and more hidden.
