Nico Cardone, spokesperson for Brussels Airlines, reminds the Belga agency that the use of students on board planes during the summer season is not exceptional in the sector. Brussels Airlines, which announced a record summer of 2024, plans to start with 60 students, who will be added to the usual temporary recruitments. In total, the airline will therefore recruit 180 temporary employees.

Students will be required to undergo the same training as normal cabin crew, with the only difference being that their training days will take place over weekends and school holidays. They will have to take the same exams. “This also means, for example, that they will have to obtain 80% success in terms of security,” explains Mr. Cardone.

The use of employed students does not save the company, says the spokesperson. They will receive the same remuneration, with the same bonuses as “classic” employees. For Brussels Airlines, this is a test. It is possible for employed students to start working on weekends. “Permanent employees who have children could then be home more often on weekends and during holidays.”
