analyses – The National Reference Center (NRC) of the Pasteur Institute has confirmed the presence of botulism bacteria in wild garlic pesto from the brand “O Ptits Oignons”

It is confirmed. People in intensive care after eating wild garlic pesto from the brand “O Ptits Oignons” in Indre-et-Loire were indeed poisoned by the botulism bacteria. Analyses carried out on the patients biologically confirmed the presence of botulism in four of these five patients, while analyses concerning the fifth case are still in progress.

The National Reference Center (NRC) of the Pasteur Institute has also confirmed the presence of this bacteria in this pesto, the Ministry of Health indicated on Thursday.

Investigations continue

The Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations, responsible for ensuring consumer safety, is continuing its investigations in order to identify the buyers of the incriminated jars of pesto, the ministry said.

On Tuesday, during a press conference at the Tours regional university hospital (CHRU), the prefect of Indre-et-Loire, Patrice Latron, indicated that “two couples (had) presented themselves to the emergency room on Saturday”, followed by a fifth person on Sunday after having participated in the same “birthday meal”. “On the basis of converging indices”, the health authorities suspected(…) - 20minutes
