The CEO of Sonatrach Rachid Hachichi met the boss of the Russian gas giant Gazprom on Tuesday in Saint Petersburg, Russia, the Algerian oil group said in a press release published on Wednesday October 9.

The boss of Sonatrach visited the Gazprom pavilion on the sidelines of the 13th edition of the International Gas Forum in Saint Petersburg.

On site, he observed “ modern and innovative technologies adopted by Gazprom in the gas industry value chain ”, according to the press release. He also received explanations on the “ gas exploration, production and maritime transportation technologies », added Sonatrach.

In addition to visiting the Gazprom stand, Mr. Hachichi met the boss of the Russian gas giant Alexei Miller. The two men chaired a “high-level meeting in the presence of leaders of both groups » and discussed the “ challenges » of the gas industry and “ opportunities » to strengthen and develop the “ partnership » between Sonatrach and Gazprom, added Sonatrach.

Sonatrach wants to develop its partnership with Gazprom

The Sonatrach group recalled that it is already working with Gazprom International on the development of gas resources discovered in Algeria at the Roudh Sayeh and Roudh El-Sayeh fields, located in the Al Assel perimeter in the Berkine basin 500 km to the south. of Algiers, through the exploitation of 24 wells in addition to the construction of a processing unit to produce large quantities of dry gas, condensate and LPG and their transportation through the gas pipeline network of the National Hydrocarbons Company from 2025.

At the end of September, the director of the Algerian Hydrocarbons Regulatory Agency (ARH), Rachid Nadil, told the Russian agency Sputnik that Gazprom and Sonatrach were on the verge of finalizing discussions to launch the operation of a new gas field in southern Algeria.
