Centenary of Sochepress: 100 years of commitment to culture and education in Morocco

Evoking the hundred years of Sochepress is to refer to the success story of a national champion and reference in the Moroccan cultural and educational field.

Since its creation in 1924 under the name Société Chérifienne de Distribution et de Presse, Sochepress has built a reputation as a key operator in promoting a culture accessible to as many people as possible.

The distribution of national and international press has always been at the heart of the identity and history of Sochepress. It is this strong marker of identity which allows readers of the press to find, every day, in all the cities of the Kingdom, a diverse and multilingual range of magazines and media meeting their tastes.

Over the decades, Sochepress has adapted to market developments, offering cultural and educational products in line with the expectations of the general public and thus offering a benchmark value proposition in the cultural and educational field.

Sochepress, a journey anchored in the history of Morocco

The history of Sochepress merges with that of the Kingdom of Morocco, as it reflects, in its governance and its core business, the developments experienced by the national press sector.

From a 100% French capital round, to 50% Moroccan capital, before Moroccan institutions from the financial and welfare sector become the majority in the capital, in 2019; Sochepress was able to adapt to the challenges of different situations and very quickly positioned itself as a main player in publishing and distribution in Morocco and the Region.

Thanks to solid partnerships established with public authorities and educational institutions, Sochepress has become a key operator in the production of educational materials and solutions meeting the needs of public and private schools.

Also, its support for national and international authors as well as its vast network of clients and booksellers have contributed to promoting contemporary literature, cultural diversity and inclusion across the country. It is in this context that Sochepress has chosen to promote national and international literary talents with its publishing house: Sochepress Editions, serving “Made in Morocco” literature.

The celebration of this centenary marks a major milestone in the history of Sochepress, testifying to its continued commitment to the promotion of Moroccan culture and its contribution to the enrichment of the national tangible and intangible heritage.
