Paris: mobilization against the dismissal of a “pipi lady” accused of having taken a euro tip

Word against word around a one euro coin. Last November, a cleaning lady at Montparnasse station picked up a one euro coin left by a user. Tipping being prohibited by law for the profession, the employee was finally dismissed “for serious misconduct”, a week later, by the company 2theloo, manager of the toilets of several Parisian stations as a subcontractor of the SNCF , who accuses him of having stolen this piece. When contacted, the SNCF indicated that it had “only a duty of vigilance with regard to its 2theloo concession” and that it had “contacted its concession to ensure proper respect for the rights of the employee”.

Outraged by this decision, the LFI deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis Thomas Portes decided to launch a petition in order to reinstate the cleaning lady and to demand that the company retroactively pay her salary. To date, the petition has garnered more than 33,000 signatures. “Dismissal for serious misconduct, without compensation. His fault ? Having accepted a 1 euro tip from a customer,” the petition states.

“No call to order in 10 years”

“After 10 years of service, without any fault, an employee is thrown in the trash like a Kleenex,” denounces Thomas Portes on X (formerly Twitter). Who adds: “This dismissal is unacceptable”. This employee, a single mother of two children, had been with the company for almost a decade. “There had been no call to order with this person for 10 years,” assures the deputy. Today, the ex-housekeeper initiated industrial tribunal proceedings to contest her dismissal.

Richard Bloch, its union defender, explains: “We are asking for payment of severance pay, payment of notice, severance pay without real and serious cause, and damages because the company took four months to provide the documents relating to the termination of the employment contract, so this lady cannot come to France Travail to receive unemployment compensation. »

As part of the procedure initiated before the industrial tribunal, the conciliation office will meet on September 16 in Paris and, subsequently, if there is no conciliation, it will be the turn of the judgment office of do its work, during the pleading of the case. A conflict had already pitted the “pipi ladies” against the company 2theloo in 2015.
