By 2030, Orange, owner of the network, will remove the copper allowing the passage of ADSL to connect homes to the Internet. This also concerns landline telephones. “As time goes on, there will be a technical and commercial shutdown. There will no longer be service for the landline,” indicates Franck CoudrieauWest Altice-SFR regional delegate.

Customers can rest assured, it will still be possible to use a landline, but some steps will be necessary.

Transition to 2027 for Pont-Audemer

In Eure, 585 municipalities are eligible to fiber SFR, including more than 6,200 taken in Pont-Audemer (Eure). “Residents and professionals can thus benefit from speeds of up to 8 Gbit/s, or 400 times faster than those allowed by ADSL,” explains the regional delegate.

What should customers do? It is recommended to go to the store (read in box) to determine whether or not the customer is eligible for fiber. If so, he will have the choice between three offers. “There is a maximum time limit of one week to install fiber. The customer will be able to choose the location to install the optical socket,” continues Franck Coudrieau. The landline will work using fiber.

A new store in Pont-Audemer

Since April 6, a new SFR store has opened its doors, rue de la République (in place of Dominik photo) in Pont-Audemer. The old store, which was located in the same street, closed in June 2023. “It was managed by independents. Their contract was ending,” explains Franck Coudrieau, West Altice-SFR regional delegate. New independents, Franck Mercier and Laurent Camy, manage this 60 m2 store located in a space called Content Store. The sales team is made up of four people. The store is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., then Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

By January 31, 2025, the copper network will be removed in municipalities around Évreux. The first three municipalities concerned are Arnières-sur-Iton, Les Baux-Sainte-Croix and Le Boulay-Morin. The Pont-Audemer sector is expected to change in 2027. “It’s still a long way off but we want to avoid the rush to the store when customers realize that they will no longer have a landline phone,” he explains.

The ADSL shutdown is an essential step forward : “After 50 years of service, the copper network is aging and requires more frequent repairs. It no longer provides sufficient connection quality to support everyday uses. Optical fiber is more ecological,” continues Franck Courdrieau.

This switch to fiber will notably provide access to the new service launched by SFR on April 9, “connected home”. A remote monitoring offer that works over Wifi.
