Turkey in final stages of investment talks with Chinese automaker Chery, Turkish official says

Turkey is in the final stages of negotiations over a possible investment by Chinese automaker Chery, a Turkish official said, as Ankara seeks to deepen ties with Chinese automakers after striking an investment deal with the Chinese BYD at the beginning of the year.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, did not say what type of investment Chery and Ankara were discussing or whether there was a timetable for reaching a final deal.

In July, Ankara said Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD had agreed to build a $1 billion production plant in Turkey with an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles.

The Turkish presidency said on Saturday that President Tayyip Erdogan met with Chery International Chairman Guibing Zhang on the sidelines of an investment event in Istanbul. Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir also participated in the talks.
