Gabriel Attal judges the remuneration of Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares “disproportionate”

The Prime Minister strongly criticized the salary of the CEO of Stellantis, which could reach 36.5 million euros.

“I don’t even see what we can do with 36 million euros. (…) These are disproportionate sums, stratospheric and obviously shocking for many French people,” declared Gabriel Attal, guest of “Face à BFM ” Thursday April 18.

The shareholders of the Stellantis group recently validated the remuneration of their managerCarlos Tavares, which could reach 36.5 million euros for 2023.

The Prime Minister, however, recalled that “the State does not set salaries in private companies”. On the other hand, “in public companies where the State is in the majority, there cannot be such a wage gap”.

Act at the international level

The State can, however, act on taxes. Questioned on the subject, Gabriel Attal declared: “We are the country in which taxes high incomes the most”. He added that he wanted to act preferably at the international level.

“There is a fight that we are taking on with the President of the Republic and Bruno Le Maire, it is to have a taxation of the highest incomes at the international level,” praised the Prime Minister.
