Yeshe Nan Gyel, author and self-publisher living in Champagney, has just published The Shadow of a Sect Lurks Over the Village. This first work, subtitled “Between manipulations, power and sectarian influence”, presents itself as a fiction inspired by his own experience within a sectarian group, the Ferme des 2 Soleils in Servance. The author, who opted for a fictionalized story in order to preserve the anonymity of the protagonists, explores the mechanisms of manipulation, the financial excesses and the psychological after-effects induced by this type of influence.
A rich and atypical personal journey
Yeshe Nan Gyel, also known as Jules, the first name of his character in the novel, has a diverse career as a designer and building technician, enriched by experiences in France, Germany and Switzerland. A musician and passionate about spirituality, he trained in various practices, including yoga and therapeutic relaxation. It was in this context that he met the woman who would become the leader of a sectarian group, bringing many people under her influence, including himself.
Resilience and alert message
The book recounts this dark period in detail and denounces the occult and coercive practices of these groups. Although the person responsible was convicted by the courts, the psychological wounds of her victims remain. “It was a thin line to tip,” he confides, recalling the vulnerability that allows this type of organization to interfere in lives.
The writing of this work, carried out over nine months based on his notes at the time, constituted a resilient and therapeutic process for the author. He thus hopes to raise public awareness of the insidious dangers of sectarian excesses and the importance of regaining one's freedom after such an ordeal. “After such an experience, it is necessary to invest a lot of time and detachment to be able to take back the reins of your existence,” he explains.
