Brandon Sanderson will not publish new books from the Stormlight Archive until 2031. –

Cosmere universe mastermind Brandon Sanderson has announced that following the release of Wind and Truth, he will be stepping away from The Stormlight Archive for a period of time. In his annual blog post “State of the Sanderson,” he noted that it was time to step back from the monumental task of writing his magnum opus, which was his main focus. of interest over the past 15 years. While the news may leave fans a little down, it comes with a glimmer of hope.

Sanderson confirmed that there would be no more Stormlight Archive novels for the rest of the decade, with the next major entry in the series likely arriving in 2031. He instead plans to focus on other projects, including finishing the saga Elantris and delving into the Mistborn Era 3 trilogy. But fear not, there will always be something to look forward to: a new companion novel, Horneater, is planned for 2026, and will take place during the fourth volume from The Stormlight Archive.

While the wait may seem long for Stormlight fans, Sanderson's move to other series opens up plenty of opportunities to explore the rest of his vast Cosmere universe. So we have plenty more Brandon Sandersons to look forward to.
