the book gives voice to the city of Fébus

The 2024-2025 edition of the Orthez cultural season, entitled “He was a voice”, will exceptionally begin this year this Friday, October 11 with a live show, that of the former singer of the group Zebda, Magyd Cherfi. A unique performance in the region, called “Longue Haleine”, which is presented in the form of a concert reading. “It immediately seemed interesting to us to start this season with this show which is the meeting between reading, live performance and music,” confides the director of the Orthez media library and programmer Stéphanie Orliac.

Accessible since the summer, the new footbridge area in Orthez was inaugurated on October 9. It offers economic leverage and a vast natural space connected to the city center on a former industrial wasteland.

The first literary meetings took place throughout last week, with Tuesday and Thursday the visit of invited authors to the schools of the reading center, and Friday to the schools of Orthez. Workshops and readings aloud adapted to ages and levels from kindergarten to high school. “Before this week of author visits, the librarians had already come to the classes to read albums or the stories of the invited authors out loud,” recalls Stéphanie Orliac. It’s a bit like our trademark in Orthez. » An operation welcomed by the mayor of Orthez Emmanuel Hanon: “It is a formula which makes it possible to single out the event and which is also a way of entering into interesting reading for young audiences since reading begins like that from kindergarten”.

From local to manga

On the programming side, Stéphanie Orliac notes: “We wanted to address the widest possible audience with local novels, manga, local authors like Marc Large who created the visuals for the book days”.

On the program, we therefore find the traditional meetings with the authors, workshops and fun activities, all spaced one hour each to facilitate organization.

The first workshop will therefore begin this Saturday, October 12 at 10 a.m. with children’s author Malika Doray for children aged 5 and over. It will be followed, at 11 a.m., by that of Laëtitia Devernay for children aged 7 and up, then by a literary and musical nap offered by the company Éclat de Lyre. After the lunch break, a focus on Éditions Passiflore will be offered followed by a workshop with the author of the highly acclaimed “Dofus”, Ancestral Z. The day will continue at 4 p.m. with a reading meeting with Magyd Cherfi and at 5 p.m. a drawing battle with the company Once upon a time.

The program will continue on Sunday, October 13, at 10 a.m. with time given to local authors. At 11 a.m., Gérard Mordillat will invite readers to come join him at the Jeanne d’Albret museum. A second musical and literary nap will be offered from 1 p.m., followed at 2 p.m. by a reading meeting with Magyd Cherfi. At 3 p.m., meeting with Bernadette Pécassou, then at 4 p.m. with Marc Large and Gilles Kerloc’h. The weekend will end at 5 p.m. with musical readings offered by Éditions Per Noste.
