Yuji “Gump” Suzuki emotionally thanked his fans for their support during his journey which began in July in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, and which took him to Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia.
A 34-year-old Japanese man arrived in Cape Town on Sunday January 26 after traveling more than 6,000 km on foot from Kenya to South Africa pulling a rickshaw, a tricycle vehicle used to transport people or of goods.
Yuji “Gump” Suzuki emotionally thanked his fans for their support during his journey which began in July in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, and which took him to Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia.
“I couldn’t have done it without you,” Suzuki said. “I run for fun. I’ve been traveling since I was nine years old and I get energy from you, so I also give (this) energy to you. This is my life.”

Among his other exploits, the adventurer pulled his two-wheeled rickshaw from China to India (2016-2017), traveled 2,500 km in Europe in 2017, and 5,100 km crossing the United States (2022-2023), according to his website. His rickshaw weighs more than 100 kg.
Suzuki wears traditional Japanese tabi socks during his travels, which he posts on social media.
