It is in the heart of Quiberon Bay, on the superb island of Houat, that Brigitte Francoual sets the action of her trilogy, the first two volumes of which have been published. Two works of sustained writing that we devour with great pleasure.
It was by discovering the captivating but oh-so-fragile beauty of this island that the Lotoise decided to virtually extend her stay by writing about it. A desire for escape and happiness, as much as for writing.
“I wanted to pay tribute to this island,” she said, “one of the pearls of the Gulf of Morbihan, but also to its inhabitants, who have always struggled between mass tourism, which they do not want, and the possibility of live with dignity. At one time we went there regularly every year, now a little less, but I fully intend to return this year, if only to finish my third volume.
-The pitch: A young ornithologist, Théo moves in with Morvan Kerreg, a distant relative who lives alone with his daughter Nina. There he discovers an authentic community but one that is worried about the future of its island. So, when Morvan disappears at sea, it is time to roll up our sleeves and do everything to save everything that represents the essentials and the very essence of this corner of paradise.
Teacher of classics and general culture in BTS at the Le Caousou high school in Toulouse, then for her last eight years, at the Jeanne d’Arc high school in Figeac, Brigitte Francoual ended her professional career “retired but confined”. So, she started writing and volunteering. At the recycling center where she takes care of books and at the Semailles et Moissons association, where she chairs the competition jury. “I build my novels like building a bridge. I move forward like its apron, slowly, until I find the right word. I like to give depth to the characters, pay homage to them, but also talk about their territory, of their living environment. Writing is a challenge, but you learn a lot about yourself.
