A catalog of 15,000 audiobooks to listen to for free (for some)

The music streaming giant has just opened its service in with a vast library of more than 15,000 works to listen to in French.

If you are already a Spotify subscriber, then you benefit from 12 hours of listening per month. The following 10 hours will be billed at €9.99.

If you are not a subscriber, you can listen to à la carte, some of which are classics free. The Deezer application also offers a small selection, to be discovered by typing “audiobooks” in its search bar

At Audible, more than 20,000 audio books

The widest choice in French, however, is at Audible, with more than 20,000 audio books for a subscription of €9.95 per month. You will also find some to download directly from the Google Play Store (see photo above) if you have an Android phone.

Go to the Books menu at the bottom right, then choose the Audiobook menu at the top. On iPhone, audiobooks are in the Books app (see photo below). Please note, most of them require payment and their prices vary from €5 to more than €25.

Please note: it is often more interesting to subscribe to a dedicated platform like Audible or Spotify than to pay per unit

1. Launch the Spotify platform and select the menu “Audiobooks” top right.

2. Scroll through the books in the first two lines of works or scroll down to discover the new features highlighted by the platform. Subscribers will also benefit from personalized suggestions.

3. If you are looking for a specific work, type “book” followed by its name in the search bar after selecting the magnifying glass at the bottom. If there is no result, it is not yet available on Spotify, you may find it on another platform.

4. Once the book is selected, download it so that you can listen to it even in a network deprived area. Press the arrow to the left of the menu (the three dots to the left of the green “Play” button see photo above.) Otherwise, open the menu to access many functions. Start listening with the “Play” button.

5. Very practical in the evening, you can set a timer (photo above) to fall asleep while listening to your book. To do this, press the stopwatch at the bottom right.
