During its greetings to book professionals, the National Publishing Union (SNE) unveiled its new logo.
The visual identity changes, but not the missions. The SNE is committed on a daily basis to defend publishers, books and reading.
Review of the book market in 2024
During the greeting ceremony, Vincent Montagne, President of the union, also revealed the unconsolidated figure for the book market in 2024. This is down 3% compared to 2023, but remains stable in value.
Maintenance of the Culture Pass and concerns about the sale of second-hand books
The union also mentioned the need to maintain the Culture Pass. He also expressed concerns about the sale of second-hand books. The SNE believes that we must work on a fair remuneration mechanism for authors and publishers.
Some elements of the 2025 roadmap
The different projects were also discussed. Firstly, Filéas, which will see the light of day in April 2025. It is a very large project which aims in particular to make sales figures known to authors in almost real time.
Another important file is underway as part of the Green Alternatives 2030 program. This file has several components, including the creation of a platform allowing publishers of all sizes to measure the carbon footprint of their production.
The accessibility of digital books is also at the heart of the 2025 missions. In fact, the European Directive relating to the accessibility of goods and services makes it compulsory from 2025 onwards to produce digital books natively accessible to readers with disabilities.
Furthermore, the SNE will participate in the World AI Summit, which France will host on February 10 and 11.
Guest of honor at the Paris Book Festival 2025
Finally, Vincent Montagne officially announced that Morocco will be the guest of honor at the Paris Book Festival 2025 which will take place at the Grand Palais.
