Books are like toys
Hoang just released Hà Nội received the third-class labor medal and certificate of merit from the Ministry of Education and Training last week. He carried an old computer “as heavy as a wooden cutting board” – a companion that helped Hoang solve homework, search for documents and even read books. It was also the machine that Hoang’s parents, who were teachers, used to prepare lessons more than a decade ago.
The corner of the screen has come off, the keyboard can no longer see the words clearly, but he takes it with him everywhere. Mr. Tran Minh Do (Hoang’s father) said that his son preferred reading books to surfing on smartphones. Hoang went to the provinces to study at a specialized school, staying in a dormitory more than 50 km from home. Parents can only contact their son from 5 p.m. because outside of class, he bury himself in books and goes looking for documents.
Perhaps this is why the student from Nghi Xuan district (Ha Tinh province) He is good in natural and social fields. Both of their parents are mathematics teachers, so the Hoang brothers instilled their passion from a young age. His younger brother is good at mathematics and his older brother Hoang was a national excellent student in physics.
On the family bookshelf, there are books that have been preserved forever since Mr. and Mrs. Hoang’s school days, with old fonts and faded paper. Mathematics books became Hoang’s favorite and entertaining “toys” every day. “Books are like my toys. Sometimes when I feel sad, I turn the book over and reread it, and I forget all my sadness,” Hoang laughed.
Learn foreign languages to read books in English
By joining the team of good students, you have less time but you still cannot give up the habit of reading. With advice from his teachers, Hoang went online to read the e-book. But there are not many Vietnamese math resources online, so I have to read foreign books, which adds motivation to learn foreign languages.
When he first entered the 10th grade, Hoang’s teachers chose him as a reserve to prepare the next team to compete for excellent students in mathematics. But this student became the school’s first 10th grader to “fight” with the team’s upperclassmen. And in his first appearance, Hoang “won” the first prize for the best national student in mathematics when he was only in 10th grade.
Last year, Hoang won the gold medal at the Iranian Intermediate Geometry Olympiad. Teacher Tran Dinh Huu (teacher at Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted) said his friends often called Minh Hoang a math prodigy, but he said he didn’t like the nickname.
Hoang is calm, loves football and actively participates in school activities. So it is not strange to see Hoang present in the Red Poinciana volunteer soldier squad, then relay for the 2024 competition season. He also won the third prize in the Golden Bell Ringing “Doan in my heart” competition.
Yellow board with mathematics
In Grade 6, Minh Hoang won the MYTS Competition Special Prize Gold Medal, SMO Silver Prize and SASMO Gold Prize. His achievements continued when in Grade 7, he won the Distinction Award at the IKMC competition and the AMO and SEAMO gold medals. Also this year, in Math for Childhood 2 magazine, Hoang won the silver prize in the mail-in mathematics solving competition, the first prize in the Childhood Math Club, the third prize in the mathematics solving competition of Math And Tuoi Tre magazine and fourth place. IGO National Competition 2020 (Iranian Geometric Mathematics).
