The Laperan room was full for this last day of 2024 of the CCAS.
Frédéric Saumade, the Cailaren, and Clément Serguier, the publisher, presented and signed the book Empègue popular-contemporary artalso written by Claude Viallat and Yves Martin. It is prefaced by Jacques Durand, specialist in bullfighting art.
Under the sign of hospitality, identity icons, the empègues adorn the doors and facades of Languedoc homes. Collective representations of youth, fervent of Bouvino, these pictorial badges testify to a great loyalty and a long memory. Nearly forty villages are listed in this heritage approach, in the heart of the Petite Camargue, between Le Vistre and Vidourle, with the aubades ritual followed by stencil marking. Patterns on the walls, painted with a stencil, or an artist, most often local, creates the design for the votive festival. A long line of aficionados waited in front of the signing table to have their book signed by the two authors or to have a little word with Frédéric Saumade.
Anecdotes and stories were also related by some Cailarens, which captivated the audience, allowing everyone to better understand the importance of empègue in the cultural and artistic heritage of our villages.
Based on maps, archives, documents and a rich iconography, the authors relate the expression of popular and contemporary art in this superb book, and it can be obtained from A l’asard Bautezar.
Then the CCAS treated the participants with dishes for these Christmas holidays and wished everyone their best wishes.
