Presentation :

If manga fans know who the “God of Manga” is, fewer of them know the “King of Manga”. However, Ishinomori Shôtarô has nothing to envy of Tezuka Osamu with whom he maintained a complex relationship. World record holder for the number of comic strips, author of 770 titles, this mangaka, originally from the north-east of Japan, is nevertheless the first to have been translated into French in book form in… 1979. Although several of his creations have were published in France, he did not benefit from the recognition due to his talent. Therefore, it was necessary to pay tribute to him both to mark the 70th anniversary of his debut and to celebrate his remarkable contribution to manga history.

Died prematurely at the age of 60 in 1998, the creator of Cyborg 009 and Kamen Rider, among others, developed a rich and diverse body of work which remains appreciated by millions of readers today. A popularity that he owes to his insatiable desire to explore new horizons and his ability to meet public expectations. Through the story of his life and the analysis of his multiple achievements, this work paints the portrait of an extraordinary author that every serious manga fan must know.
