Thursday evening, around fifty people gathered at the Palis Bleu in Malansac for the release of the book “Where Father Dodu was born!” “. A book of stories and testimonies about the “Abattoirs de Bellevue” in Malansac. Among the public, some former workers from the old Doux factory who brought their testimonies, their memories which enabled the release of this book.

Throughout the pages we find the history of the Doux site, its evolution, the men who left their mark on its history and anecdotes from those who experienced them. “This former slaughterhouse was throughout the end of the 20th centurye century the symbol of the growth of our commune, employing several hundred people directly and running an entire economy in Malansac and the surrounding area,” commented Gaëlle Rollin, Malansac cultural assistant in introduction to the evening.

The future of the site

The book has been released, and coincidentally, the demolition of the site and its decontamination will begin: “today the wasteland has become the property of the Etablissement Public Foncier de Bretagne, which will carry out its demolition and decontamination. A large part will have to be intended for renaturation. Then, the idea is to do something sporting where all generations could meet. So, we will ask you again when we arrive at this new phase,” explained Morgane Rétho, mayor of Malansac, who added “we wanted to preserve the house of the site guardian, which will remain the only symbol of the passage of Father Dodu on our territory. »
