Jeanne Selene40 years old, has been a book publisher near Saint-Brice, near Avranches for 10 years. A former speech therapist, she decided to change path and go into the book domain.
“Books have always been something I enjoy. I’ve been writing since I was a teenager. My first short story when I was a schoolgirl. I returned to writing after finishing my studies. I wanted to continue working in the book industry,” explains Jeanne.
Highlight visible minorities
Its particularity is that it publishes inclusive books which highlight the diversity. “I publish books where the characters come from a minority community (racialized people, Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, people with disabilities, etc.). My texts are accessible for dys people (Editor’s note: dys disorders include all specific cognitive disorders and specific learning disorders).”
She has three collections in her publishing house. A collection dedicated to children’s albums, romance and imagination. It publishes 21 authors and illustrators in France and abroad.
An inclusive book available in three formats
His latest project is the creation of a book in three formats for everyone. “It’s a youth album aimed at 4-8 year olds. It will exist in a paper version adapted to dys people, an audio version and a filmed version translated into sign language. The idea is that all children can have access to this album regardless of their disability,” she says. The author is Kelig and the book is illustrated by Loupiote. “It’s the story of an autistic girl who is enthusiastic about participating in a community garden with her two dads, her best friend and her best friend’s mom. The heroine is of Franco-Vietnamese origin and she is also autistic.” The fundraising campaign is over. The book is available for pre-order on his website. The release is scheduled for April 2025. If this format finds support from the public, the idea is that the next ones will also be published in three formats.
