Valérianne Cailly, author and Isabelle Fournier, illustrator, presented their book Mugwort, the adventures of a young Cro-MagnonFriday December 13, 2024, at the Grand-Pressigny prehistory museum. The latter will serve as a support for the storytelling workshop offered, Monday, December 23, by the museum, for children aged 4 and over.

Armoise is a young Cro-Magnon who recounts her adventures in search of her family. The idea is to help children apprehend and understand what life was like in the region 20,000 years ago and to transpose themselves into the landscapes and daily life of the time, through a discovery book.

The Paleolithic seen by a child

The work is fully in keeping with the decor of the museum, which faithfully recreates a Paleolithic camp. Starting from this basis of inspiration, Armoise wanders from page to page in this environment, seen through his child's eyes.

During the workshop accompanying the visit and the book, children will be able to model one of the animals encountered by Armoise throughout the story. Everything happened in the Paleolithic period, at the heart of the end of the ice age, the coldest era in Europe, that is to say around 5°C cooler than today. Then there were reindeer, mammoths, steppes and little precipitation.

The book allows you to remember the visit or recapture the story at any time, even without having participated in the workshop. The illustrations, created by Isabelle Fournier, mainly in watercolor, have a lightness and accuracy of line which give both an impression of realism and escape, wonderfully accompanying the text written by Valérianne Cailly.
