Far from bookstores, libraries and classrooms, reading takes on a different flavor in the heart of nature! this is the concept proposed by the Book Club Le Matin kiosk in the heart of Anfa Park in Casablanca. This space dedicated to the promotion of reading, where Books are freely accessible, was officially inaugurated this Saturday by the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid. Speaking on this occasion, Mohammed HaitamiChairman and CEO of Groupe Le Matin, explains the genesis of this initiative: “Following the success of the Book Club literary meetings, initiated by the Le Matin group, the idea of bringing reading closer to the public began to germinate. Thus was born the Kiosque Book Club, brought to fruition in partnership with theHEARINGmanager of Anfa Park, who made this space available to us that we have developed. This kiosk allows people passing through the park to read a book for free on site or even borrow it. It also houses a comfortable space for people to settle in during their reading break”.
The approach is warmly welcomed by the Minister of Culture: “I congratulate the “Le Matin” group for this great initiative which offers young and old alike an opportunity to get closer to books. Promoting culture is the responsibility of the Ministry of Culture of course, but it is work that must be done in partnership with civil society, private groups interested in cultural action to bring culture closer to Moroccans,” a- he declared after the inaugural ribbon cutting.
Mr. Haitami stressed that the main objective of the initiative is to reconcile the public with reading, in an era dominated by screens. And to remember that Le Matin is working to make its contribution to contribute to the prosperity of culture. The survival of the book in the era of hyperconnection was also underlined by the Minister of Culture: “The book has a very special place, especially today, in the light of new technologies. We need to create more partnerships between the public and the private sector to preserve the place of the physical book and promote reading, while encouraging the book industry, whose authors continue to make us dream through their works, and by encouraging publishers to invest in this sector while offering reasonable prices for Moroccans.”
Another highlight of the opening day of SILEJ, the organization by the Book Club Le Matin of the conference-debate highlighting the role of the pocket format as a solution to make books more accessible. Throughout SILEJ, the Kiosque Book Club Le Matin follows this dynamic by offering youth-oriented programming, with signing sessions and storytelling workshops.
