KaïdaraAmadou Hampâté Bâ, illustrated by Omar Ba, Editions Diane de Selliers, 238 p., launch price €230
Every year, Diane de Selliers editions, specialized in exceptional art Books, take on a challenge. This time it is Kaïdaraa long allegorical poem in free verse, a Fulani initiatory story full of sacred mysteries which invites us to see beyond the visible world and to embark on the path of knowledge. From the beginning of the tale, all notion of space and time disappears, symbols flow and landmarks are lost. Amadou Hampâté Bâ dedicated his life to making known the rich oral traditions of West Africa. He wrote this tale drawing on these traditions. It is already a remarkable initiative from the publisher to publish it. What is even better is having called on a contemporary African artist, Omar Ba, to illustrate it. His work is splendid, nourished by tradition and modernity.
