The mayor, Stephan Rossignol, pleads for the release of Boualem Sansal, writer arrested in Algeria, on his Facebook page and on the city's newsletter:

I would like to express my deep concern regarding Boualem Sansal [placé en détention en Algérie depuis ce mardi 26 novembre, NDLR].

This Franco-Algerian writer and essayist, whom we had the honor of welcoming last October to the book fair in La Grande-Motte, is a courageous voice who talentedly denounces censorship, corruption and the dangers of Islamism.”

The mayor emphasizes that in his latest work, French, let’s talk about it!he offers a masterful defense of the French language, which he considers as a vector of freedom, creation and emancipation, but also as a bulwark against obscurantism.

Call to the French authorities

“I appeal to the French and European authorities to act without delay to obtain clear information on the circumstances of this worrying disappearance. It is imperative to do everything possible to ensure the release and safety of Boualem Sansal.

His voice, essential for freedom of expression and the fight against oppression, must not be extinguished.”
