The writer Yves Desmazes has chosen to focus his 20th novel, In search of immortality, on the future Montpellier Cambacérès district, which takes the name of Jean-Jacques-Régis de Cambacérès. A 19th century statesman who was notably second consul of France alongside Napoleon Bonaparte. “He is a choice subject to discover the historical wealth of the region. In this novel, I have taken up the double narrative line which allows me, on the one hand, to explore the past using authentic archives and on the other hand, to conduct a contemporary police investigation. The discovery of the body of a history student in the area of the future Cambacérès district is the starting point of an investigation which takes Kevin Normand, a police officer, and Charlotte, his journalist friend, to the Père Lachaise cemetery, the Château de Saint-Drézéry and the chapel of the White Penitents.
