It is at the Nouméa forest park that a special Silo ends this weekend. The International Oceanian Book Fair traveled for several weeks, from the districts of Nouméa to Lifou and Ouvéa. The crisis that has been affecting New Caledonia since the riots has deprived the event of its funding. He had to reinvent himself.

“Links and words” is the theme chosen by the Maison du Livre for Silo 2024. Its fifteenth edition was held in the wake of the riots and the lack of subsidies. So, the Oceanian International Book Fair wanted to get as close as possible to Caledonians. This weekend of November 16 and 17, the caravan ended its journey in Nouméa, in the palm grove of the forest park.

It seemed important to us to have a vision on the ground, to continue the action and to work with the populations, particularly on the islands of Ouvéa and Lifou. We went there, it went very well.

Alice Pierre, director of the Maison du Livre

Present throughout the trip, the Calédo Livres bookstore offers readers the opportunity to purchase the works presented at the Silo. After six months of difficulties and uncertainties, the end of the tunnel seems to be approaching.

We have been making efforts for a very, very long time and we are trying to put ourselves in warrior mode to continue. Calédo absolutely must survive.

Cathie Manné, director of the Calédo Livres bookstore

The Silo continued this Sunday until 4 p.m. (entrance fee).
