Albiana, the Corsican publishing house, innovates with a new collection called Spiega. This editorial initiative offers a hybrid format that sits at the crossroads of book and magazine. Vannina Bernard-Leoni, responsible for the publication, explains the ambition of this collection: “Each title offers the reader understanding and in-depth texts, beautiful iconography, including a large poster, and digital bonuses accessible by QR Code. »
The very name of the collection, Spiega, has a double meaning in the Corsican language. It means both “explains” and “unfolds,” a beautiful metaphor for Spiega’s concept, which invites an immersive journey into the content. Each work is a true hybrid object, which evolves as it is unfolded. The format of the book, 26×24 cm, unfolds into six successive blocks, gradually revealing a magnificent poster on the back. Vannina Bernard-Leoni underlines the unique dimension of this design: “ Each block constitutes a part or a chapter of the subject covered. »
The whole thing is inserted in an illustrated cardboard sleeve, a model inspired by 33 rpm vinyls, thus underlining the originality of this proposition. This particular format is designated by the term “libracciolu”, to mark the singularity of the project, both in its form and in its content. Each libracciolu highlights the state of play on a specific subject, enriching it with interviews with actors and specialists, as well as various multimedia content such as podcasts, audios or even videos.
This approach allows the Spiega collection to adapt to a wide variety of themes. Through these works, Albiana thus offers a veritable Corsican library, in perpetual evolution. Already published titles include “Mateo Falcone vu de Corse”, “Tandu l'Americani”, “GR20 Tamanta strada! “and “Vigna Corsa”. By the end of the month, a new title, in perfect resonance with current affairs, will enrich the collection: The Castagnu Arbre-monde. Other exciting works are also planned for 2025, in partnership with the Heritage Department, notably “Evviva la libertà. James Boswell the Scottish friend”, “The four lives of Pasquale Paoli” and “Corsica and the Paoli years”.
With Spiega, Albiana inaugurates an original format, both aesthetic and educational, which redefines the way of telling and understanding Corsican history and culture.
