The association Les Journees de l’histoire makes a point of welcoming authors and the public as best as possible for its 13e History Book Fair.
Sunday November 10, this was again the case, with around thirty authors, publishers and several historical societies, installed in two rooms of the Château de Monts-sur-Guesnes, the Historial du Poitou.
An actress and new kids
Two rooms connected by a canvas tunnel, under which walkers were able to discover various exhibitions. “ These two rooms and the space connecting them allow the authors to be at ease and the public to wander or park without hindrance. If the public, according to the organizers, came a little less numerous than in previous editions (around 300 visitors), the signings were as numerous as in the past.
An informed public coming to meet authors and favorite historical subjects, but not only that. The different conflicts, the Cadre Noir, the pacifists of the First World War, Acadia were some historical themes.
Authors have combined history and literature, like Françoise Froment, who came for the first time. She presented a work bringing together the portraits of 57 little-known American women, who had an exceptional destiny, from the 18e century to today. Alongside this 640-page review, she offered her books for young audiences. She wasn’t the only one.
The heating engineer, fan of Verlaine and Rimbaud
In the same room as her, Catibou and Joël Martineau, residents of the village of Bouchet, commune of La-Roche-Rigault, presented their books: children’s literature for Catibou, collections of poems for Joël.
« My works have been published for around fifteen years. I’m at 25 albums. Just came out “A very curious swim” et “Maël and the great beech”. The theme of trees is very present in my works, through my inspiration or to respond to orders,” explains the former teacher.
Joël Martineau, heating engineer, fan of Verlaine and Rimbaud, took notes during his work, when inspiration struck. He ended up sorting “his little papers” and grouped them according to the themes of love, nature, and youthful memories. Four collections of poems, some of which were illustrated by his brother, were published. He likes to hear them declaimed by friendly comedians.
